A Region Built on History — and We Mean Built
For a team that thinks about construction every single day, Friuli was nothing short of inspiring. This is a region where history doesn’t just exist in museums — it is the landscape. From Roman amphitheatres and ancient trade routes to medieval fortresses and Renaissance piazzas, every corner of Friuli tells the story of civilisations that understood one thing deeply: build well, and it lasts.
Walking through the streets of Cividale del Friuli — a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the oldest Lombard settlements in Italy — our team couldn’t help but draw parallels. Buildings that have stood for centuries. Infrastructure engineered not just for today, but for generations. It’s a mindset we share at IteraSpace, where every OptiMax unit we produce is built with longevity, adaptability, and precision at its core.
The history of Friuli is layered — quite literally. Empires have come and gone, but the bones of what was built remain. We take that same approach to every modular project we deliver, whether it’s a military facility in Washington or a dormitory on a remote island in the Marshall Islands.
The Prosciutto. We Have to Talk About the Prosciutto.
Let’s be honest — no blog post about Friuli would be complete without dedicating a proper section to San Daniele del Friuli, home of one of Italy’s most celebrated cured meats.
Much like our modular units, prosciutto di San Daniele is the product of precision engineering. The right conditions, the right timing, the right craftsmanship — aged to perfection and assembled with purpose. We left nothing standing. And much like our production process, nothing went to waste.
The team sat around long tables, pulled apart impossibly thin slices of prosciutto, and talked — not about deadlines or deliverables, but about ideas, stories, and the kind of conversations that only happen when you step away from the office floor and into a place that forces you to slow down and be present.
It turns out, the best team-building tool isn’t a workshop or a whiteboard. Sometimes, it’s a wooden board covered in cured meat and a glass of local Friulian wine.
Why Team Trips Matter — The Foundation You Don’t See
At IteraSpace, we often talk about foundations. It’s impossible not to — it’s the business we’re in. But the most important foundation we maintain isn’t made of steel.
Behind every modular unit we ship across North America, Europe, Africa, and Asia, there is a team that has to operate with precision, trust, and a shared sense of purpose. Our work demands it. Whether we’re delivering a rapid-deployment dormitory after a natural disaster or engineering a secured facility for a naval base, the margin for error is small and the stakes are real.
Trips like this — stepping outside the factory and into the world together — are how we reinforce that foundation. We learn more about each other over a plate of prosciutto than we do in a month of meetings. We laugh, we debate, we get slightly lost in a medieval town, and we come back to work a little more connected than before.
And connection, in any industry, is what makes the difference between a team that performs and a team that excels.
Grazie, Friuli
The Friuli region surprised us at every turn. It’s not the Italy most people expect — there are no tourist crowds, no rush, no theatre. What you get instead is something more honest: real food, deep history, warm people, and landscapes that remind you how beautiful it is to slow down.
We came back with full stomachs, sharp minds, and a team that’s a little more ready for whatever challenge comes next — whether that’s a project in Hawaii, a base in Texas, or a shipyard in Virginia.
We build structures designed to go anywhere. Good to know the team is just as adaptable.
Grazie, Friuli. We’ll be back. (Mostly for the prosciutto.)
